flashback to when MLK Jr said the worst group in the US for black rights wasn't the lawmakers passing Jim Crow laws or the KKK but the white moderate. That it was the white moderate who was forcing the country to find a middle ground between civil rights and genocide which allowed the continued systematic mistreatment of the African American community
a date late but!!!! quick thing for twewy anniversary!! thank you squenix for this jewel of a game
I was going through all the main game Touhou character artwork to see how the character designs for Reimu and Marisa have changed over the years, but upon reaching SA's artwork I made a very important observation
WHY DOES REIMU HAVE A MIMA REFERENCE IN HER OUTFIT??? HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS BEFORE???????
Come to think of it, she also has a color palette that references Mima in AoCF, too.

(It's important to note that because of the purple that this is a Mima palette, and not a Sanae one-- Mima notably wears purple in one of her SoEW sprites, and her hair is a considerably darker green than Sanae's.)

Of course, Marisa's outfit in SA also references Mima, too, in a more direct way by being dark blue and having a (lighter) blue capelet. And SA is the game where they went to (Old) Hell, too!

(Aww, lookit the scrunkly!)
And of course, her color scheme in the more recent fighting games is dark blue, too-- and you know it's dark blue because she also has an alternate black color scheme more in line with her regular appearance.

Anyway, these are just some observations I made. I just think it's neat that Zun threw little hidden references to Mima in SA and AoCF.
(Big thanks to Random Talking Bush, Xyssia, kendotlibero, and Lilithtreasure over on TSR for the Touhou sprites!)

My late father was the one who taught me to be cynical about advertising, for all that putting up ads was literally his whole job. He taught me from a very young age that advertising is expensive, and they tack that cost onto the price. That if something is heavily advertised, you can count on the fact that there's an identical product out there, usually even manufactured in the same factory, that's cheaper because they don't spend all that money on advertising.
A German friend walked me through Lidl, turning over items to show the factories where the items were manufactured and what expensive brands they correspond to, we did taste tests on some of the more pricey food things later and they were the same product. learning about food manufacturing was a hobby for her.
European glasses and sunglasses are made in the same Italian factories that make the luxury ones, they have the same quality control and warranty. You are paying €100 for a logo.
Some things cost more because they are actually made with better quality materials and where the workers are properly compensated, others are the same product as the off brand version with the brand name markup. It takes a lifetime to learn the intricacies which is why consumer advocacy associations and legal protection by (truly) independent agencies is crucial.
One of my favorite tropes is character with a nasty toxic personality who tries very hard to do the right thing anyway
I like my protagonists sad, tired, bitter, fully convinced they will never get the recognition they deserve, but they still gotta get up in the morning and be a good person
